Alpharetta Real Estate
Not many people know about Alpharetta, let alone anything about real estate in Alpharetta, but the small town is ready to be known. Back in 1980, the population of Alpharetta was just over 3,100. The city experienced a considerable amount of growth in the next decade and by 1990 had a population of about 13,000. The real growth came in the late 90’s, and by the year 2000, Alpharetta boasted a population of about 35,000. Large growth in population means a large growth in the real estate market, with plenty of opportunities for those planning to relocate to Alpharetta.
Alpharetta boasts many other great qualities that have attracted more and more people to the city. Because Alpharetta is only a 34 minute drive away from Atlanta, many younger families decide a suburb life is more their style. Alpharetta has a median age of just 33.3, with an average household income rising up from $50,559 in 1990 to $97,913 in 2000. A striking 95.2% of the population completed high school or a higher form of education, 57.1% of which hold a Bachelors Degree or higher. Education in Alpharetta is particularly appealing to parents, as the public schools are some of the best in the nation. Approximately 89% of area high school graduates take the SAT, almost double the national average, and receive an average score of 1092, almost 70 points higher than the national average. Not all of this growth was caused by people who wanted to commute to Atlanta, however. From 1996-2000, an estimated 69,000 jobs were created. Alpharetta is just booming.
To accommodate this growth, of course many new homes and complexes have been built. Since 1980, the number of housing units has increased by more than 1,000 percent. The median home value in 1990 was $119,800, 30 percent higher than the Atlanta region median of 92,300. By June of 2005, this number had jumped to $288,725.
